We had  a good turnout for our first meeting of 2024.

Amongst the advantages of our venue and length of our sessions, is the opportunity to play long and large games.  The big game of the day for January - in number of players, space needed, and time taken - was Twilight Imperium, not the first time it's been played at the club.

Amongst the medium length games was Isle of Cats, sometimes described as tetris with weird cats on a boat.  An old favourite, there were two games played this time.

Another game which pops up regularly was Taverns of Tiefenthal.  It involves deck building and dice drafting, with the aim of building the best tavern.

Hardback is a deckbuilding word game.  It is a successor to Paperback - played regularly a few years ago - by the same designer.  For those who like words, they are both great games.  For those who don't - don't be put off, there's strategy involved as well.

Fluxx turned up in one of its many forms.  It's a card game in which the first rule to remember is that the rules are constantly changing. Fun and frustrating in equal measures,

Innovation(not pictured) involves gathering cards to build civilisations and score achievements to win.

Coup is a game which I don't recall seeing at the club before.  Cards denote various forms of influence, and the last player holding influence wins.  Bluffing and bribery is involved.

We usually play modern board and card games, but this month a classic card game made it to the table.  Cribbage has been around for two or three hundred years and has even given some words/phrases to our language - eg pegging out.  It is usually a two player game, but can be adapted for three or four.  We played the three player version, and it was a surprisingly close game.

There may have been other games played, which I missed.  There was certainly a 6 Nimmt box being waved about at one time, but I don't know if it actually made it to the table.
