June 2024 meeting

Summer is here, but we're not quite all off to the tavern.

June 2024 meeting

Despite the expo being on and some very nice weather over the weekend, the club had a strong member turnout. Kicking off with Weather Machine, Galaxy Trucker, Fort, Love Letter and Ticket to Ride Special Edition, players settled in for a morning of deep strategy to alter the weather, chaotic space ship building (and destruction), fort building, light deception and railway building.

Moving up to lunch time, a group squeezed in a quick game of Deep Sea Adventure, a quick, easy "push your luck" game with a goal to obtain the most treasure, but not suffocate to the perils of deep while trying to carry too much.

After lunch, The White Castle, Terraforming Mars, Isle of Cats and ML'EM: Space Agency were set up. In The White Castle, players strategise how to obtain the most points for the best army, highest point of court and the most farmers over a fixed number of quite restricted turns. Terraforming Mars is a club favourite which sees players take control of a corporation and compete to try to make the most money and advance the terraforming of the red planet.  Isle of Cats is a lighter game where players obtain a fixed number of fish per turn in an attempt to lure cats into baskets and get them to take up space on a boat. ML'EM continued the theme of cats, with cats occupying planets and moons.

Wrapping up the rest of the afternoon, players made their way to tables participating in sessions of The Banishing, Dune Imperium, Takenoko, Taverns of Tiefenthal and The Shadow over Westminster. The Banishing is a co-operative deck building game where spells are conjured and cast to send the undead back through the void. Dune Imperium is another club favourite which has deck building mechanics set in the Dune universe. Takenoko sees a hungry panda working against players that assume the role of a farmer who try to grow the biggest bamboo field. Taverns of Tifenthal sees players competing to run the best tavern, attracting the most lucrative patrons with beer while spending their hard earned cash on tavern upgrades. Shadow over Westminster is also a co-operative deck building game where players work together to prevent darkness creeping over the city.
