November 2024 meeting
Lots of new games getting their first try outs.

Our November meeting was another busy one, with plenty of games played. Unusually, the day started with most people diving into the heavier games from the get-go. We had Crown of Ash (which I know nothing about, but it looked very pretty), Through Ice and Snow (which I also know nothing about), Terraforming Mars (which I know well), and Scout (the outlier lighter game).

Terraforming Mars was the first outing of my new Bigger Box expansion, so we tried one of the new maps (the North Pole one) and the new Prelude cards. It was a fun game, and tight at the end. I came second with 70 points to the winner's 71; I'll claim the moral victory, though, as the winner got a two-Prelude combo that started them with a head-start of 10 Terraforming rating, meaning they had ten extra points and ten extra money to spend each turn. I'm impressed that I managed to claw almost all of that back during the game.
While that was going on, the other games continued and the Scout table shifted into Terra Mystica.

Then it was lunch time, the morning games all finished, and people shuffled around. We came back to games of Ahoy, Die of the Dead, Dune Imperium Uprising, and Quantum. Die of the Dead was a game we had to play, as it was in the Day of the Dead period. Die of the Dead remains fun, because it should be so simple to keep track of the contents of just four boxes, but somehow recall remains out of reach.

As various games finished, people moved into shorter games to fill out the day. We had The Crew: Deep Sea (including that moment of elation when a player new to the game realised how clever it is, and how clever it makes the players seem), Hanabi, Bohnanza, and two parallel games of 6 Nimmt.

Next meeting
Our next meeting is 14 December, and will be our Christmas special again. We'll have the Pitch Car tournament, with prizes (though not as many as previous years), mince pies, and general merriment. Take a look at the post from last December to see what happens. The details are on our club Meetup page.
Expect another post soon from our new club chair giving more detail about the December meeting, and keep an eye out for the 2025 dates on our calendar.
