January 2025 meeting

Starting the new year with some new games.

January 2025 meeting

The meeting kicked off with the club AGM. Luckily, I was about ten minutes late so missed the whole thing. The main thing that came out of it was that the subs have decreased to £6.00 per session, with the first session free. The other thing is plans are afoot for a club game library. Watch this space!

But on with the games!

As you'd expect for the first meeting after Christmas, there were plenty of new games amid the classics. We started with games of 6 Nimmt, Taverns of Tiefenthal, Nemesis, Gwent (the Witcher card game) and Innovation.

6 Nimmt was its usual mix of hilarity and anguish. Despite it being a staple of the club meets, I've not yet played Taverns; that will have to change next time it turns up.

6 Nimmt and Gwent finished quickly and the groups rearranged themselves to play Ticket to Ride and Letters from Whitechapel (a hidden movement game involving Jack the Ripper). Meanwhile, Taverns, Nemesis, and Innovation continued.

After lunch, we rearranged again and played Castles of Burgundy, The Castle of Mad King Ludwig, and Potion Explosion. (Nemesis continued.)

It was the first time any of the three of us had played Castles of Burgundy. It was entertaining enough, but it was clear we were only scratching the surface of what the game had to offer. Personally, I'm not sure it's a game I'd rush back to play.

We wrapped up the day with games of Architects of the West Kingdom, The Quest for El Dorado, Bullet (quick, a real-time game of take-that action), Scout and some card game I forgot to note the name of!

All in all, a successful day!

Next meeting

Our next meeting is 8 February.

We've published the dates for next year and they're listed on our Calendar page. We've also got the events listed on Meetup.

We look forward to seeing you then!
