July 2025 meeting
A sweltering hot day, but we persevered!

Our July meeting was on one of the hottest days of the year, and that meant attendance was down a bit from our usual numbers. But we had enough people there for a good variety of games taking place over several tables .
We started off with El Dorado, Saltfjord, and Terraforming Mars. I was a bit late, so hopped into a game of Viticulture when El Dorado finished.

Viticulture is a classic worker-placement game with a lot of competition between players for the key action spots. I got off to a bad start, in that all my initial cards were powerful, but needed a lot of setup to all me to play them. At least, that's my excuse for failing to do well in the game. It was fun, though, though just as frustrating as worker-placement games always are.
Meanwhile, the Saltfjord game finished and that group played a variety of shorter games, including Splendour, The Crew 2, and Scout. The Terraforming Mars group was still going; it's a long game with all the expansions included!

I finished off the day with a game of Root. It's one I've only played a couple of times before, so this time I decided to try the Vagabond. I ended up winning the game, mainly because everyone else ignored me! I didn't really react with anyone else, and the other players were all focused on the "traditional wargame" aspect of the game, battling for control of clearings. I was left to get some kit from the ruins then pursue my Quests. In the final turn, the Eyrie player self-destructed due to been too successful and I ended up winning by completing a couple of Quests.

Soon after that, we decided that the hall had absorbed enough heat from the all-day sun, and called it a day.
