Our November meeting was well attended. The day began with a number of tables getting stuck into some longer games, including Ark Nova, On Mars, Teotihuacan: City of Gods and Seastrike (a classic head to head naval combat game from the 1970s). Meanwhile, another table got their day going with a game of Dixit.

On Mars is a fairly heavy action selection/worker placement game by Vital Lacerda, in which players are competing to the build colonies on Mars. The main twist is that on their turns the players can only take actions corresponding to where there astronaut is, either on the surface of mars or on the orbiting station, with players being able to move between the two location every few rounds. Like a lot of Lacerda's designs the game has various different systems that interact in interesting ways and is surprisingly thematic for a Euro game.

While the longer games continued the Dixit table moved onto the tile laying game Rome In a Day, in which players gain tiles using an 'I Cut, You Choose' mechanic. Later in the day the Seastrike players where joined by a late arrival and began a game of Dune: Imperium, a perennial favourite at the club.

The games of On Mars, Ark Nova and Dune: Imperium ran long into the afternoon. Meanwhile the other tables moved onto games of Harmonies, the classic Carcassonne and the always fun 6 Nimmt.

The day ended with games of Let's go to Japan, Ticket to Ride: Switzerland, Cosmoctopus and the cute looking push your luck game Spots.

Cosmoctopus is a fun little engine building game where players are worshippers of the "Great Inky One" and have to prove their devotion by being the first to collect 8 tentacles. Players move the "Great Inky One" on a grid of tiles which is how they select the action to take that turn. These actions typically allow them to gather resources which they can spend to play cards, with cards giving the players unique abilities or rewarding them with tentacles.

Our next meeting is on 13th December, there will be mince pies and our traditional Pitch Car competition. You can see our upcoming meetings on our calendar and our Meetup group.
