Our first meeting of the new year was well attended, with a variety of different games played. The day got started with games of 1714:The Case of the Catalans, Cross Bronx Expressway, Gaslands Refuelled and 6 Nimmt.

Gaslands Refuelled is a game of post-apocalyptic vehicular mayhem. It is designed to be a game with low barriers of entry, requiring only the rule book and a few Matchbox cars to get started; but when it comes to how far you go, the sky's the limit!

Players are encouraged to "kitbash" their own vehicles, turning generic toy cars into anything from rusty wasteland warriors to sleek corporate cruisers. There's also plenty of independent online retailers stocking 3D printed parts, tokens and templates.

The game uses measurement templates and "skid" dice to create a tight and fun game with some great push-your-luck mechanics. We played the "Deathrace" scenario, which is a straightforward dash through the gates to the finish line... well it should have been straightforward, but inevitably, chaos and carnage ensued!

While the other games were ongoing the 6 Nimmt table split into a couple of smaller groups and moved onto games of Harmonies, the always fun Quacks of Quedlinberg and Azul.

After tearing up the wastelands the two Gaslands Refuelled players were joined by another player for a game of the Lost Ruins of Arnak, a worker placement/deck builder hybrid. Meanwhile other groups were moving onto games of The Lord of the Rings: Fate of Fellowship and Power Grid.

Fate of the Fellowship is a co-operative game based on Pandemic where players take on the role of members of the fellowship who have to use their actions to move around the map, fight the forces of evil and complete a number of quests, which hopefully culminate in Frodo casting the one ring into Mount Doom. Like in Pandemic at the ends of their turn a player draws a number of cards that cause the Forces of Darkness to perform negative actions, such as marching their forces across Middle Earth or using their Nazgul to try to locate the One Ring, which can potentially cause the fellowship to lose hope. If the fellowship's hope ever drops too low the players lose the game, however in this instance the fellowship prevailed and were able to defeat Sauron!

Later in the day the Arnak table moved onto a game of gorgeous looking Tribes of the Wind, while the Cross Bronx Expressway group played The Quest for Eldorado and another group got dug into a game of Ticket to Ride: Poland.

The day ended with games of Incan GoldSea Salt and Paper and the pretty looking racing game Spokes.

Our next meeting is on 14th February, you can see our upcoming meetings on our calendar and our Aftergame page.
