Our August meeting had a good turnout, with a few new faces attending. The day opened with one table diving straight into a chunky game of Revenant, which lasted most of the day. Meanwhile the other groups got started with games of the new Wingspan Pocket and the classic 6 Nimmt!

Revenant is a fairy heavy worker placement game set in the same universe as the game Voidfall. The worker placement spaces represent the various ships that make up the fleet escorting the Revenant, which contains the accumulated knowledge of humanity, as it flees from an alien threat known as the Voidborn.

Each player starts with a captain and their own frigate, which is a private worker placement space, which gives each player a set of asymmetric powers and gain cards over the coarse of play which grant even more unique abilities. The game adds an interesting wrinkle to the worker placement mechanic as the ships, and hence worker placement spaces, can move around the board over the coarse of the game, or even be destroyed, which can drastically change the actions available from one turn to the next. While players are competing to be the one with the most points at the end of the game they also need to make sure that the Voidborn don't destroy too much of the fleet or even the Revenant itself, which can mean sometimes having to co-operate with the other players.

While the game of Revenant continued the Wingspan Pocket table moved on to a game of Sanctuary, which is a tile drafting and laying game based on Ark Nova, in which players are trying to build the best zoo. Meanwhile the other group attempted to save the world from global warming in the co-operative game Daybreak.

As the afternoon arrived, the 15th Anniversary edition of Ticket to Ride: Europe, with its cool train models, and Scout made an appearance. Later in the afternoon the two non Revenant groups dived into games of Endeavor: Deep Sea and the cycle racing game Flamme Rouge.

Endeavor: Deep Sea is a sequel to the game Endeavor: Age of Sail. In Deep Sea players are exploring the depths of the ocean with their submarines, researching dive sites, publishing critical ecological papers, and launching conservation efforts. Players take actions by placing a disc from their limited pool on one of their specialists and depending on the action permanently committing a disc to the game board. The players start the game with a specialist and recruit a new one each round. During the game one of the rewards players can receive is to advance a marker on one or more of the four tracks on their player board, with these tracks determining: how far/deep their subs can move, the level of specialist they can recruit, the number of discs they add to their pool each round and the number of discs they can recall from their specialists each round.

As Endeavor:Deep Sea wound down, the Flamme Rouge table were joined by a new member and moved onto a game of the Uwe Rosenberg classic Bohnanza. With the epic game of Revenant finally over there was just time for a quick game of Tally Up!, which is a light and straightforward push your luck game.

A fun day all round - see you at the next one!
