May 2025 Meeting
More new games

The day started with games of Hadrian's Wall, Rococo, regular staple 6 Nimmt, and the imaginatively titled Star Wars: The Deck Building Game.
Hadrian's Wall is a somewhat heavy flip and write, where you use workers and resources to advance along various tracks, construct buildings, and improve your defences against regular attacks from the Picts. In order to do well in the game you really need to make optimal use of the bonuses awarded by the different tracks and buildings in order to gain additional workers/resources and maximise the amount of stuff you can do on your turn.

Star Wars: The Deck Building Game is a head-to-head deckbuilder where players take on the roles of the mighty Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, and compete to be the first to destroy the required number of their opponents bases.
While the other games continued throughout the morning the game of 6 Nimmt finished and the group moved on to games of The Great Dalmuti and Cartographers, another flip and write.

After lunch the various groups moved onto the enduring classic Catan, Ark Nova, which is becoming a regular favourite at the club, and a 2 player game of the Turing Machine, a very thinky deduction game. I joined a game of SETI, a very fun and attractive euro-game where players employ multi-use cards and take actions, which enable them to find traces of extra-terrestrial intelligence and more importantly gain victory points. At the start of the game two mystery alien species are selected at random and once discovered these aliens species add new gameplay mechanics as well as additional ways to earn victory points, which I can see adding a nice amount of variety to each play of the game as you encounter different combinations of alien species.

While the games of SETI and Ark Nova continued other tables started on the Reiner Knizia classic Tigris and Euphrates, and another game of Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game.
