June 2025 Meeting

WarCry comes to Leighton Buzzard

June 2025 Meeting

Our June meeting was well attended, with some new faces and plenty of games played.

The day started with games of Heat: Pedal to the Metal, Through the Desert, Architects of the West Kingdom, Bohnanza and in a first for the club the miniatures game Warcry. Also SETI made a return to the club, with the game lasting most of the day.

Warcry is a skirmish miniatures game by Games Workshop. Being a skirmish game, it is smaller and quicker than the large flagship games like Warhammer 40,000 or Age of Sigmar. The board is small enough to fit on a coffee table, and a whole game (once you're familiar with the relatively simple rules) can be played in around 45 minutes. Two players take control of small warbands of around six to ten miniatures and compete to complete objectives drawn randomly from a deck of cards. It was great fun - there really is something special about a table full of painted terrain and miniatures!

I joined the game of Heat: Pedal to metal, which is a fun racing game from the same designers as Flamme Rouge. We competed on a historically accurate version of the Monza F1 circuit from the 1960's, including period appropriate model cars.

While the other games continued throughout the morning the game of Flip 7 finished and the group moved on to games of Skull and Harmonies.

After lunch the games of SETI and Warcry continued. Meanwhile the other groups proceeded to play games of The Taverns of Tiefenthal, Blueprints of Mad King Ludwig (a flip and write version of Castles of Mad King Ludwig), Smash Up and Cat Ass Trophy, which is a "retheme" of an older Reiner Knizia card game.

As we approached the end of the day there was still time for a few new games, including another classic Reiner Knizia Poison and Lords of Waterdeep, a worker placement game with a nice dash of "Take-that" set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, and Blueprints, an interesting looking dice placement game.
