August 2025 Meeting

A Day of Daybreak

August 2025 Meeting

Our August meeting was well attend for the time of year, with a couple of new faces.

The day started off with games of The Quest for El Dorado, Paperback, Seti, and Cascadia.

The game of Seti continued throughout the morning, while two of the other tables moved on to games of Daybreak and the Reiner Knizia classic Poison also made another appearance.

Daybreak is a co-operative game where players take on the roles of major world powers who are working together to try to save the planet from climate change. They achieve this by playing cards either for the actions on them, to improve the actions of cards already in play, to help pay to unlock benefits for all players or to help counter the negative events that take place at the end of each round.

The game of SETI ended early afternoon and the table moved onto a game Dune Imperium: Uprising. Meanwhile one of the tables of Daybreak having failed to save the planet the first time decided to give it another go. The other game of Daybreak also ended in a failure with the group splitting up, with some deciding to play yet another game of Daybreak and the rest moving onto a game of The Castles of Burgundy.

The afternoon also saw games of the Architects of the West Kingdom and Splendor played.

After some some of the groups were eventually able to successfully save the planet the day ended with a couple of smaller games including Deep Sea Adventure and Pic'Together.

Pic'Together is a game where players are trying to get one player to guess what is written on a card by drawing clues, the catch being that each player is only drawing part of the clue on their own jigsaw piece which are then assembled to form the whole clue. Depending on individual players skill (or lack of) at drawing, and their ability to correctly interpret what others are trying to draw, this can lead to some quite hilarious and bizarre results.
